Shannon Sullivan ’21

“I graduated PC in 2021. Upon graduating I served a year with AmeriCorps as a grades K-3 literacy tutor in Springfield, MA where I’m from. From there, I moved to Boston to attend Northeastern to pursue my MPA. While in school, I worked for an alternative transportation nonprofit called Green Streets Initiative. This job was my first exposure to planning and development, which I work in now. I worked in communities (Cambridge, Dorchester, and Everett, MA), helping planners and other officials learn more about peoples’ commuting ideas and habits. We did community engagement projects, events, and surveys.
I graduated from Northeastern in May 2024 and began a new role in July 2024. I now work for the Central Mass. Regional Planning Commission (CMRPC) as a community development planner. I work on block grants for small, rural communities in Central MA, including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and Massachusetts Green Communities. I also do some hazard mitigation planning and resiliency planning – so a bit of everything. I still live in Boston and are quite happy with where I am career wise. My career has taken a turn I never thought it would when I graduated PC, but I feel as though I use my sociology minor every day! “
