“I graduated PC in 2013 with a minor in Sociology. Immediately afterwards, I worked for a year on a clothing company that I started while I was a PC student, Serengetee. The company stayed active for several years, but closed its doors a couple years ago. After that year, I decided that I wanted to pursue medical school so I enrolled in a post-baccalaureate premedical program at Bryn Mawr College. After completing my premed requirements, I was accepted into medical school at the University of Rochester in upstate NY. Prior to starting medical school, I also commissioned as an officer in the US Navy. I graduated medical school in 2019 and completed an intern year in Pediatrics at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and was then selected to train to become a Naval Flight Surgeon. After finishing flight school, I was stationed in Beaufort SC where I served as an active duty flight surgeon for 3 years. I served out my military service commitment and got out of the Navy in June 2024. I then decided to reenter a civilian residency program and am now a Public Health & General Preventive Medicine Resident at Emory University in Atlanta. I feel like I utilize my sociology knowledge daily, especially in the care of my patients from disadvantaged and minority backgrounds. It has given me a unique lens on the world that is frequently missing from other physicians. Go Friars.”
