Jack Heslin ’65

“When I was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in the Army, the general who promoted me, asked why I got a masters degree in Sociology and not in one of the “hard sciences” since I was an Army aviator. I told him that I focused on the study of social power in my master’s program because I was part of the largest, most powerful, bureaucratic organization in the world, the US military. I told him that my understanding of social power which was a result of my degrees in Sociology had helped me greatly in my career. He was surprised at my answer.”
