“I currently work for an organization that provides an array of human services for individuals that reside in specific towns in the Greater Boston area. My work requires me to understand societal shifts, community needs, and human behavior. One thing I learned in my sociology and anthropology classes that really stuck with me is how closely linked the economy is to social class, poverty, and crime and law.”
One of Alex’s favorite Sociology/ Anthropology classes that he took was SOC 413: The Power of Whiteness with Dr. Charlotte O’Kelly. Thinking about his time in the department, Alex said that one piece of advice he would give to students thinking of studying Sociology is to “be ready to live a life filled with service to others. [It’s important to] build meaningful relationships in whatever profession you decide to go into. Also, seek to truly serve others, even if it comes as an inconvenience to you.”
